Building Prana, Tejas, and Ojas
Prana, tejas, and ojas can be developed in several ways. We possess a certain amount of them congenitally, which is reflected in the inherent strength of our constitution, but they can be increase by various practices. They must first be purified (rendered sattvic) for their yogic affects to come forth. This requires a pure diet and dharmic living, along with control of the mind, emotions and senses such as yoga ordinarily prescribes. In other words, yogic living is the foundation to work with them.
Increasing Ojas
Ojas increases in several ways, of which the following are most important:
- Right Diet
- Tonic Herbs
- Control of Sexual Energy
- Control of the Senses
- Devotion (Bhakti Yoga)
Increasing Tejas
Once ojas is sufficient, we can turn it into tejas without depleting it. Tejas is primarily developed through:
- Control of speech and other austerities (tapas)
- Mantra
- Concentration exercises
- Yoga of Knowledge (Jnana Yoga)
Increasing Prana
Once Ojas and teas are developed, a higher prana can come forth. Prana is developed specifically through pranayama, but many other methods are helpful:
- Pranayama
- Passive meditations emphasizing space and sound
- Raja or Integral Yoga
