Chapter 1
Chapter 1 Notes
We are not separate from sound, we produce sound from the core of our beings.
• Sound is a form of energy caused by vibration
• For sound to exist there must be:
- Substance must have an elastic quality to allow it to expand and contract
- Energy of force to cause it to vibrate
- A medium through which the vibration will be carried
Measured by cycle per second = hertz
Amplitude is the height of sound wave, contributes to perception of intensity and volume, the larger amplitude the louder the sound.
• A natural vibratory rate = resonant frequency
Two principles that interact and affect objects are resonance and entrainment.
• Substances are not limited to vibrating at a fixed frequency and can shift and change
Vibrations of one object can change vibrations of another object and will synch with the first
• Our internal systems can also move into entrainment. Our heart rate, breathing rate, and brain wave activity all entrain with each other (deep breaths calm us down)
Harmonics provide the "color" to sound, providing the rich spectrum of sound.
