Chapter 2

Chapter 2 Notes

Ear includes the outer, middle, and inner:

  • Outer = exterior, ear canal, and eardrum; sound waves are funneled by exterior skin

down canal and vibrate eardrum

  • Middle = small bones of hammer, anvil, and stirrup transfer vibration from drum to the

inner ear

  • Inner = fluid moves membrane causing cilia to bend sending impulses that our brain

translates into sounds

The ear bridges the physical and energetic realms

• Ear is tied to many nerves including the vagus and plays roles in vision, breathing, heart rate,

digestion, and more

The vagus nerve is the longest nerve in the body extending from the brain to the abdomen.

Connects to bronchi, heart, and gastrointestinal tract.

Sound has a unique ability to bring you into the present moment and into greater attunement

with your own physical being and presence.

All sounds literally touch us

Our bodies could be used to the sonic immersion, so even if we are affected by these sounds

we cannot hear them.

• Choose music based on the energy state that you'd like to enhance (soft music = relaxing,

loud music = energizing)

Hearing is passive; vibrations are received and perceived

• Listing is active; bringing in focus, imagination, energies, and concentration
