What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is the knowledge of life. A spiritual science rooted in Vedic tradition
A system of medicine based on the idea that disease is caused by an I'm balance or stress in a person's consciousness.
The oldest continually practiced medical system in the world, which always had a branch of medicine the encompasses the physical and energetic body with emotions, mind, and spirit.
Together with Yoga, Ayurveda forms a complete approach for optimal health and higher awareness.
Ayurveda is a science of healing for body and mind.
Yoga is a Vedic science of self-realization, that depends upon a well functioning body and mind.
What are Doshas?
The entire Universe derives from three original powers: energy, light, and matter.
These three forces combined with Prana (the life force) create the three Doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.
Dosha is one of the three substances that are present in the body.
The air, fire, and water qualities.
Vata Dosha,
literally means wind, is the primary Dosha or biological force. It is the motivating power behind the other two Doshas, with (according to David Frawley), are lame and incapable of movement without it.
Pitta Dosha,
means the power digestion or cooking; which causes things to ripen or mature. As fire cannot exist directly in the body, Pitta exists in the body in the medium of oily and acidic secretions. It is responsible for all forms of digestion.
Kapha Dosha,
means what makes things stick together. It serves as a bodily container for Pitta and Vata.
It's located in the chest, throat, and head - the sites of mucus production.
What are some benefits of the Ayurvedic diet?
The type of food that we eat reflects our level of development. In Ayurveda, food is the first and most important form of medicine. It promotes mindfulness, emphasizes the development of air and ether elements for detoxification, and opening the mind because Ayurveda considers food's intelligence values.
