Book Report
"Yoga Beyond Belief" by: Ganga White
Ganga White contemplates upon a concept: what is religion was us - each one of us.
What if our yoga practice was our life.
What if our prayers were our words.
What if a church - any church was the earth, and the forest was our church, the holy water were the rivers, lakes, and oceans.
What if meditations were our relationships, and our teacher was our life.
What if wisdom was self-knowledge, and love was the center of our being.
Ganga White doesn't spend a lot of intellectual energy thinking about Yoga or trying to articulate the process Yoga awakens. For him Yoga is intrinsic of his life, permeating it to such extent that there is no beginning or end.
Ganga White said that to him, Yoga practice is connecting flexibility, strength, balance, concentration, consciousness, and spirituality so that what may have begun foley as a physical practice can evolve into an integrated and holistic approach to all aspects of one's life.
His book integrates the scientific and practical approach into a fresh perspective on Yoga.
He describes the pitfalls of some regimented teaching and offers to advise on how students can customize their Yoga practice.
Ganga White explains the core principles of many branches of Yoga. He sheds light on the inner process that brings health and well being during Yoga practice.
This book stroked a chord in me since I am searching for a new level of awakening and freedom in Yoga, and in my journey of recovery from the unexpected divorce.
