Qualities of Movement

WHERE TO DRAW THE FOCUS

That depends on a pose.

For example in the Mountain pose, because it is an equal state pose, the attention is on the importance of equal standing.

When we cue the Mountain pose, we pay attention to equalizing of both sides of the body,

we draw the focus to ground through the feet and lift through the forehead.

For the feet, we cue:

to bring the feet together, so the heels of the feet are separate, and the big toes touch each other,

we cue to ground through all of the three corners of the feet,

we cue to ground the feet, lift the inner arches, and spread out the toes.

For the legs, we cue:

to engage the quads by pulling the knee cups up,

to rotate the ankles outward and to rotate the thighs inward.

For the torso, we cue:

to keep the pelvis neutral.

For the shoulders, we cue:

to roll the shoulders back and to keep the shoulders away from the ears,

to widen the collar bone.

For the arms, we cue:

to lengthen the arms down through the fingers.

For the head, we cue:

to keep the chin parallel to the floor,

to gaze forward,

to breathe normally.
